SICB Grants In Aid of Research (Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology): The Grants-in-Aid of Research (GIAR) program was established in 1996 to provide supplemental awards to graduate students in support of their research in the fields of integrative and comparative biology. Awards are made in amounts up to a maximum of $1,000.

Libbie Hyman Memorial Field Scholarships: This scholarship, in memory of Libbie H. Hyman, one of America’s foremost invertebrate zoologists, provides assistance to students to take courses OR to carry on research on INVERTEBRATES at a marine, freshwater, or terrestrial field station.

Friday Harbor Laboratories Fellowships and Scholarships: Fellowship support is available for qualified applicants to conduct independent marine science research at UW-Friday Harbor Laboratories. For each of the following fellowships, applications are welcome at any time. However, we strongly encourage applicants to apply before February 1 of each year, and awards are generally made in March.

The Stephen and Ruth Wainwright Endowed Fellowship supports research in functional morphology.
The Alan J. Kohn Endowed Fellowship supports research and coursework in invertebrate zoology.
The Richard and Megumi Strathmann Fellowship supports graduate students working on natural and physical science problems in the Pacific Northwest.

The Patricia L. Dudley Endowment supports research or scholarships for the study of systematics, the structure of marine organisms, or marine invertebrate ecology. It is desirable that findings contribute to the understanding of evolutionary relationships.

Fellowships at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute
The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI), is a division of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC and maintains research facilities for marine and terrestrial research at various locations on the Isthmus of Panama. STRI offers fellowships for undergraduate, predoctoral and postdoctoral research in the areas represented by its scientific staff. Disciplines include ecology, anthropology, paleontology, paleoecology, evolutionary biology, molecular phylogenetics, biogeography, animal behavior, neurobiology, soils sciences, and physiology of tropical plants and animals. Deadlines for short-term fellowships are: January 15, April 15, July 15 and October 15

American Museum of Natural History, Grants and Fellowships
The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) is a leader in the education and training of young scientists in the natural history disciplines represented in this institution. Our fellowship programs provide training in the fields of anthropology, invertebrate zoology, paleontology (paleo-zoology), physical sciences (astrophysics and earth and planetary sciences), and vertebrate zoology.

Typically, grants of up to $1,500 each are given to qualified parties undertaking field or laboratory research on recent or fossil mollusks, and other molluscan related projects. Up to 2004, most of the awardees have been citizens or permanent residents of the Americas or students attending graduate schools in the United States. Awards are not made to high school students and rarely are made to undergraduate college students. Deadline for application each year is February 28.

Jessup Fellowship, Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia. The Jessup Fellowship supports collection based work at ANSP. The duration of the stay must be at least two weeks. Covered expenses are travel and $250/week for accomodation and food (the cheapest is the local youth-hostel). Application must include the usual (form, proposal, CV, letter), and a letter of recommendation of the ANSP curator you wish to work with. Contact: Dr. A. E.
